Biography and Operatic RepertoireGary Rideout, one of the finest singing actors of the day has won praise for the power and beauty of his voice, singing roles spanning a wide range of the tenor's art. His critically acclaimed performances and recording of Siegfried from Australia has now been released on CD in America and upcoming engagements include Laca in Jenufa in Monte Carlo and Mahler's Das lied von der erde in Montreal. Most recent engagements have included Ariadne auf Naxos and Idomeneo in Los Angeles, Jenufa with the Opera Royal de Wallonie in Belgium, Florestan in Fidelio with the New Israeli Opera and the new Ring Cycle in Washington, D.C. In 2002/2003 Mr. Rideout sang the premieres of Siegfried in the new Siegfried and Götterdämmerung productions at the Kirov Opera under Valery Gergiev and sang in the world premiere of Nicholas and Alexandra with the Los Angeles Opera, Der Liebe der Danae with the Concertgebouw, Die Fledermaus with Utah Opera and The Prodigal Son with the Britten Festival in Toronto. In 2000, Mr. Rideout made his Metropolitan Opera debut in Doktor Faust, followed by Lulu and The Gambler. He returned to the Met in 2001/2002 singing the Prince, Marquis and Manservant in Lulu and in War and Peace. Recent engagements for Mr. Rideout include a return to the San Francisco Opera for the world premiere of Dead Man Walking, The Tsar's Bride, Peter Grimes, Turandot and Norma followed by critically acclaimed performances of Mime in Das Rheingold and Siegfried in the 1999 Ring. He made debuts in Santiago for Wozzeck, and Cincinnati for Salome. In the 1997/1998 season Mr. Rideout performed Loge in Das Rheingold with the Arizona Opera and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel with the Canadian Opera Company. Past appearances with the San Francisco Opera include roles in Rigoletto, Die Fledermaus, Lulu, Die Meistersinger, Tannhaüser, Prince Igor, Falstaff, The Makropoulos Case and The Fiery Angel. He has sung Steva in l'Opera de Montreal's production of Jenufa and Cavaradossi in Tosca for Hawaii Opera and Pacific Opera, Victoria. In concert he has sung Beethoven's Ninth in Baltimore, New Mexico, Milwaukee, Kingston and Ottawa, Mahler's Eighth Symphony at Carnegie Hall and Das Lied von der Erde with the McGill University Symphony, and the Verdi Requiem in Gainesville, Victoria, Charlotte and Edmonton. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in Haydn's St. Nicholas Mass and has sung Mozart Vespers of the Confessor, Handel's Messiah and the Bruckner Mass No. 3 under Charles Dutoit with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, as well as concerts in Kitchener-Waterloo, and the Aspen Summer Music Festival.He has also sung Szymanoski's Lieder des Verliebten Muezzins and Mahler's Lied Eines Fahrenden Gesellen with the Manchester Symphony. |
